Being a successful teacher, (teacher trainer, coach, etc.) is, to a large part, about asking GOOD QUESTIONS.

They can be quite closed (i.e. yes-no Qs), or more open (usually starting with a question word).

Display, or more ‘genuine’.

Longer, or shorter…

And asking the RIGHT question(s) often gets us ‘halfway there’ already, and some question words are especially POWERFUL to prompt good thinking.

My favorite ones are WHY and HOW. 

‘Why’ –to engage a student’s critical thinking skills, 

and 

‘How’ –to see if they can also perform ‘the thing’. In other words, it tends to elicit SKILLS in ACTION… <3
