How long should my ‘carrier’ text be to contextualize my target language?

Why do you think it’s important to provide learners with enough information about the target language of the lesson ‘in action’ (i.e. in context)?

Is there a limit to how long a carrier text should be?

How do you decide how long is ‘too long’ (or just right), when choosing/writing a text for a lesson?
